Sisters In Sweat: Tanvie Hans & Swetha Subbiah

Meet Tanvie Hans and Swetha Subbiah – the dynamic duo who are redefining women’s relationship with sports and wellness through their exclusive community, Sisters in Sweat.

Based out of Mumbai and Bengaluru, Sisters in Sweat platform brings together sporty sessions, networking events, and various other activities, all designed for the ladies.

But how did Sisters in Sweat emerge from a concept to a vibrant community of over 5,000 women?

Let’s deep dive into their journey.

Sisters In Sweat: The Start of Something Special

Our story begins when Sisters in Sweat was barely a year old, and COVID-19 decided to gate-crash the global scene.

But that didn’t dampen the spirits of our heroines, Swetha Subbiah, a fitness coach and Tanvie Hans, an avid sportswoman.

They tapped into the virtual world, conducting engaging yoga, HIIT, and dance sessions, and voilà, the community began to bloom.

Fast forward to today, Sisters in Sweat boasts a robust network of women across India, hosting physical sessions in Bengaluru and Mumbai.

The organization offers an array of sporting activities, from the ball-dribbling basketball, goal-kicking football, shuttle-whacking badminton, splash-making swimming to punch-packing kickboxing sessions.

And let’s not forget the soothing yoga, groovy dance, and the heart-thumping sweat fest that merges different fitness formats into a whirlwind 1.5-hour session.

Not Just Sweating it Out

With 16 weekly sessions in Bengaluru and six in Mumbai, the community stays active and vibrant. However, Sisters in Sweat isn’t just about fitness.

Social events such as pizza-making sessions (yum!), karaoke nights (cue the shower singers!), and offsite trips add a sprinkle of fun to the mix.

Our intrepid founders, Swetha Subbiah and Tanvie Hans, are now setting their sights on a travel vertical, a blend of wanderlust and wellness.

They’ve already dipped their toes in the water with successful trips to the enchanting Andamans and a refreshing trek in Dehradun.

As Swetha Subbiah says, “The response got us thinking about launching a vertical that combines travel and fitness.” Well, we’re all in for some sweaty sightseeing!

Fitness Festivity and Beyond: Sisters In Sweat

Things are heating up at Sisters in Sweat, with an upcoming multi-city Sweat Fest, spanning Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

Picture a fitness carnival, a riot of yoga and dance classes amidst a carnival-like atmosphere, aiming to bring together women across the country. “The Sweat Fest will be a celebration of fitness and sisterhood,” adds Swetha Subbiah.

Plus, the attendees can sample and purchase wellness products from their sister brands.

A 10K run is also in the pipeline for the active ladies out there.

Who Can Join the Sisterhood?

One might wonder, who fits into this sweat-drenched sisterhood?

“Any woman who has the desire to engage in sport and wellness”, as Hans puts it succinctly. From teenage girls to mothers and daughters to spry grandmothers, Sisters in Sweat is all-inclusive.

While the focus is on fitness and fun, the organization also plans to launch an elite program to nurture sporty aspirations and foster professional athleticism.

Accessible and Sustainable

A key element of Sisters in Sweat is its accessibility. While membership is free, they offer subscription models and charge a nominal fee for sessions and events.

Through partnerships with brands such as Bare Necessities, Copper+Clove, Proactive for Her, Nutrify My Diet, Sisters in Sweat keeps the sessions affordable and continues to include more women.

A Sporty Origin Story

The story of Sisters in Sweat began with Swetha Subbiah and Tanvie Hans connecting over their shared passion for sports during a Nike campaign.

What started as a friendly football session, on a suggestion by their friend Schonali Rebello, quickly spiraled into something larger.

A surprise turn-out of 17 women ignited a spark, leading to a thriving community knitted together by sports and wellness.

Tanvie Hans & Swetha Subbiah: Personal Journeys, Shared Goals

Tanvie Hans, born in Delhi, fell in love with football in school, playing for Delhi at the national level. Her journey led her to play for renowned English clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham, before returning to India.

Swetha Subbiah, born and raised in Coorg, played basketball and hockey for Karnataka.

She later transitioned to fitness training, becoming a certified personal trainer after a stint at Bengaluru’s premium health club, Zele.

Their friendship soon evolved into a business partnership, leading to Sisters in Sweat.

As Subbiah reminisces, “In 2019, we received an opportunity to participate in the Creators’ League with Adidas sponsoring us. The tournament was a huge success.

This pushed us further.”

Sisters In Sweat: The Power of Sisterhood

The community thrives on sisterhood, with the founders believing in the empowering influence of shared fitness goals and friendly camaraderie.

Whether it’s to meet fitness objectives, make new friends, or simply enjoy the thrill of sport, Sisters in Sweat welcomes all.

Member Raisa Goveas says, “SIS has created a women-centric space for sport, where we can get together, shed inhibitions, and just enjoy ourselves while learning something new.”

The vision for Sisters in Sweat is to expand, slowly but surely, maintaining their quality while reaching out to more women.

As Swetha Subbiah states, “We want to be present in more cities with various offerings. It will take time, but we are willing to work hard towards it.”

Here’s to sweat, sisterhood, and the future of sports and wellness for women!
